Board of Directors
Heart Beats’ Board of Directors is composed of dedicated volunteers from diverse backgrounds, united by personal or professional connections to pediatric heart disease. Many of our board members are parents of children with a wide range of heart conditions, from infancy through adulthood. Their lived experiences ensure that Heart Beats initiatives provide meaningful support to families at every stage—from the moment of diagnosis through the transition to adult care.
Jesse Badrudin, Chairperson & Secretary
After experiencing the care of both the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Stollery, and the support of Heart Beats during her daughter’s CHD journey, she felt a deep calling to give back. Today, Jesse is honored to be part of Heart Beats, helping other families feel the same compassion and community she once received. Jesse cherishes time spent baking, doing puzzles, and reading with her daughter, and loves escaping to the outdoors for family camping trips whenever she can.

Kristina McGuire, Vice Chairperson
With a background in nursing and firsthand experience as a parent of children with complex medical needs, Kristina is passionate about ensuring patient voices remain at the heart of healthcare research and improvement. She excels in building strong partnerships, advocating for patient-centered care, and empowering families to be active contributors, not just participants. Her work reflects a deep commitment to creating meaningful change for families navigating the healthcare system.

Brett Stevenson, Director & Finance
Brett Stevenson brings strong financial insight and leadership to Heart Beats in his role as Vice Chair and head of the Finance Committee. Outside of his board work, he enjoys golfing, weight training, traveling, and celebrating Christmas, which happens to be his birthday. Brett shares his adventures with his Bernese Mountain Dog–Golden Retriever mix, Dallas, and has a soft spot for country music.
