What is Camp Evergreen?

Camp Evergreen is a weekend retreat for Heart Beats families to connect, recharge, and create lasting memories in nature. Held each September near Sundre, Alberta, the camp offers a welcoming space for families of children living with congenital heart disease (CHD) who are seen at the Alberta Children’s Hospital or Quarry Park Cardiology.

This unforgettable weekend includes cozy heated cabins, delicious meals, and a wide range of outdoor activities like canoeing, rock climbing, archery, ziplining, horseback riding, and more. Whether you’re bonding over a campfire or cheering on your child at the climbing wall, Camp Evergreen is about community, joy, and the shared strength of heart families.

Thanks to generous support, Heart Beats subsidizes most costs to make the camp as accessible as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Camp is open to families with a child seen at Alberta Children’s Hospital or Quarry Park Cardiology for CHD. Due to space limitations, only immediate family members can attend.

  • The cost is $50 per person (age 8+), $25 for children ages 5–7, and free for children 4 and under. Fees are subsidized by Heart Beats and based on the age of attendees at the time of camp.

  • Yes. While Camp Evergreen is not a medical facility, staff are trained in first aid and Heart Beats volunteers are always nearby to help. Families are responsible for bringing any medications or medical equipment their child requires.

  • A packing list will be shared with registered families closer to camp. Essentials include weather-appropriate clothing, toiletries, bedding or sleeping bags, and any personal or medical items your family needs.

  • Absolutely. Camp Evergreen is a great opportunity to meet other Heart Beats families and get connected with our community. As long as your child is followed at ACH or Quarry Park for CHD, you're welcome.

  • If you need to cancel after confirming your spot, please let us know as soon as possible. This helps us offer your place to another family on the waitlist. Refunds may be available depending on the timing of the cancellation.
